About Us

Greetings!  We are followers of Jesus who live in Two Rivers, Alaska.  Two Rivers is a small community located along the Chena Hot Springs Road (approximately 25 miles northeast of Fairbanks, Alaska).

Our mission is to be Christlike, Outward-focused, Missional Makers of Disciples who live in UNITY.  That’s a mouthful!  What that basically means is that we want to be on-fire for the Lord in such a way that we positively impact our community for Christ.

Although we assemble under the banner of the International Church of the Nazarene, we are a faith community with a multitude of heritages (i.e. Southern Baptist, Roman Catholic, Four-Square, Assemblies of God, and, of course, Church of the Nazarene).

We are a part of the American Holiness Movement.  If you are into studying history, you should check this link out.  (Click on the Seal of the Church of the Nazarene.  Our history starts on Page 14.) It’s fascinating to see how God (since the mid 1800’s) has poured out His Holy Spirit on us.  Anyway, what does it mean in practical, everyday terms to live a holy life?  The most succinct statement is that I choose to live my life in accordance with God’s will.

In the book of Ezekiel, God says through the prophet, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.  And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws” (Ezekiel 36:26-27 (NIV)).  Theologically speaking, God cleanses our hearts from the impurity of the carnal nature and empowers us to serve Him.  (If you would like to learn more about what we believe on the subject of holiness–click here. Then go to page 32 of the document. )

The bottom line is that living a holy life is following the leading of the Holy Spirit in the choices I make for my life.  Ultimately, my goal is to live my life in such a way that God is pleased and people are prompted to give God glory for the things they see me doing.

If any of this sounds interesting, we would love to have you join us for worship and study of God’s Word.  We meet for worship, prayer, and fellowship in this building (see the picture above) which is located at 14.8 miles on the Chena Hot Springs Road in Two Rivers, Alaska.  (Just watch for the steeple through the trees.)  If you come to the Two Rivers Lodge, you have driven one mile too far.

Oh and, by the way, you don’t need to “dress up” for church.  Our pastor wears Carharts and flannel shirts when he preaches.  So, you don’t have to worry about anyone looking at you cross-eyed for coming “as you are”.  (We would appreciate it if you wore clothes, though!) đŸ˜€

Fun Fact: We are the farthest north Church of the Nazarene in the world!  (The latitude of Two Rivers, Alaska, is 64.872N)
